Did you know that God can do nothing without your prayer? This might sound really blunt and even blasphemous, but please allow me to explain. When I say that, I mean that God cannot, or maybe more accurately will not, do anything on the earth without humans, in effect, ‘allowing’ it. I realize that this might sound wrong. This is, however, one of the most important things to understand while we live in this world. The lack of understanding of this principle is one of the most prominent reasons for our frustration, disappointment and overall lack of faith.

You see, as far as it concerns earth, God put us in charge. Let’s look at the precise words He used when He decided to create humans:

“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion…” – Genesis 1:26

“Let them” clearly indicates that God gave us the responsibility of dominion. The earth was to contain the same DNA, the very same culture as heaven, but with one very distinct difference: Men were to have dominion over earth and manage it.

“The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth He has given to the children of men.” – Psalm 115:16

“But God is absolutely sovereign and can do whatever He likes” you might argue. Yes, God is certainly able to do absolutely anything, but the one thing He will never do is violate His own Word.

“You have exalted above all else Your name and Your word and You have magnified Your word above all Your name!” – Psalm 138:2

God set His Word above His name. Even God obeys His own Word. He decided and declared at the beginning of creation that men will have dominion over Earth. Not even when things seemed to go haywire through Adam’s disobedience, did God violate His Word and take rulership of Earth. Humans gave their dominion to the devil and because of His adherence to His own Word, Jesus had to come in the flesh. He had to ‘enter in legally’ as a human being to take back the dominion that humans gave away. He could only do that as a human.

That means that every single thing that God will ever do in the earth will be done through a human being. He will never do anything without a man or a women’s participation. You’ll see that right throughout the bible. Prayer is the way that we invite and in effect ‘allow’ Him to work on the earth.

It is through prayer that God’s supernatural power flows into our natural world. One of the shortest, but most important, verses in all of the Bible is 1 Thessalonians 5:17 “pray without ceasing”. This makes so much sense when considering this truth. We can’t afford not to pray. It’s the only door through which God’s power can come into our world. We need His power to transform this world’s culture to that of heaven’s culture.

So, will God move on the earth and do a bunch of stuff by Himself, as soon as we pray? Many believers, after praying profusely, are very disappointed when nothing happens. This is once again where this important principle of human dominion comes in. We still need to go out and act in agreement with our prayers.

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” – James 2:26

Our prayers should activate and not pacify us.

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” – 1 John 5:14

It’s when our prayers align our will with God’s, that we will go out and act in accordance to God’s will, purpose and principles. It’s then that we ‘work’ in ‘faith’ and see God’s supernatural power in our lives. Our prayer puts God’s supernatural on our natural. It causes whatever we touch to prosper.

An example of praying without works would be sitting in your room praying for God to provide financially. Money is not going to drop into your lap. You have to go out and do some work, trusting that God’s power will work in your human efforts, because you have prayed God’s supernatural into your natural. That is how Jesus did all His powerful works and we have His Spirit working through us:

“…it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20

The prayer that changes everything will also never operate outside of unity with God. It comes from a deep dependance and intimate relationship with Him.

If we truly get that the earth is men’s domain, we will also stop blaming God for everything that goes wrong in the world. Every single bad thing that happens in the earth is human induced. Every wrong comes from a human violating God’s principles and not allowing God’s truth and power into the earth. Our lack of prayer can keep more of God’s goodness out of the earth.

Thank God for all the praying believers! The good we see in the world is proof of praying people.

Can you imagine what would happen if all believers prayed without ceasing? We wouldn’t be part of this broken world for much longer…

May we all pray with a new fervor and great expectation to see God’s supernatural power working in our lives.
